“In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.”

                                        (Genesis 1:1-5)

In the beginning of 2014, your life may appear somewhat like a formless void, and darkness may obscure your deepest needs and desires.  But be assured that the Spirit of God is hovering over your New Year’s Day, preparing something good for you in 2014. What is the first word God speaks as he begins creating that reality?  “Let there be light!”

The first word of creation is always “Let there be light!”   Your 2014 will take shape and show positive results only if you are guided by the light that comes from God.  A Hollywood director supposedly says, “Lights, camera, action.”  Without the lights there’s no sense turning on the cameras and signaling the actors to perform.  But your impatience may cause you to rush into the drama of 2014 before God’s light shines to show you the way.  Meditation, prayer, Bible study and Christian fellowship are ways in which God’s light can shine through the darkness and confusion of your 2014 prospects.  Wait for the light before you hurry into the cameras and action based on your own wisdom or wishful thinking.
When God began his recreation  by sending his Son, Jesus Christ, into the world for our salvation, he was once again saying “Let there be light”:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . .  In him was life, and the life was the light of all people.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness was not able to overcome it . . .  And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory. ”

(John 1:1, 4, 5, 17)

If you have never opened yourself to the light that shines uniquely through Jesus, make your first decision of 2014 the choice to accept him as your Savior.  Then the first word of your 2014 creation will be God’s speaking into your heart, “Let there be light!”   You’ll never be the same again.
