Job Description

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead worship on Sunday mornings during regular worship services
  • Lead worship during special worship services
  • Train volunteer worship leaders to lead worship services in the absence of the worship coordinator
  • Work directly with pastoral team to develop the Sunday morning worship service
  • Manage sound and media personnel related to Sunday morning worship services
  • Work with Campus Development Committee for sanctuary and worship improvements
  • Lead and direct choir

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Thorough command of music reading, writing, composition, transposition, singing, directing, and conducting.
Undergraduate degree preferred
Seminary training encouraged
Mastery of an anchor instrument (piano or guitar) to be played while leading worship services
Currently active in leadership at a local church
The applicant should be able to provide video links demonstrating his/her worship leading skills

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Worship Coordinator will lead worship services on Sundays, in a manner reflective of a deeply blended style of worship. Our worship style is, currently, mostly contemporary and includes traditional hymns and spirituals, with the occasional addition of international and multi-cultural Christian worship songs.
The church has many volunteer worship band musicians, ten singers, two bass players, one guitarist, a pianist (electric and acoustic), three drummers, and a violinist. ABC also has four volunteers committed to sound engineering, and three people committed to “Media Shout,” the subscription service used for acquiring and displaying slides containing song lyrics, special announcements, and sermon scriptures, notes and other forms of media.

About Altadena Baptist Church
Our paid staff consists of one lead pastor, one associate pastor and one office staff person. We are working toward hiring a part-time youth leader. Our average Sunday attendance is approximately 60 adults and 5 children in-person, and 25 on-line. Multiple generations of families are longtime members, offering stability in a constantly changing world. ABC has a deep history of supporting civil rights, and actively integrated the church membership in the early 1970s. The church maintains a strong multi-cultural membership, consisting of approximately 25% Black, 35% Caucasian, 15% Filipino, and 15% Hispanic et al.
ABC has a deep history of supporting women’s rights, becoming one of the first churches in the Baptist General Conference (Converge) to ordain women – our lead pastor is a woman.
