MATTERS FOR PRAYER AND PRAISE
Prayer & Praise email address: AltaBapPrayer@aol.com

Prayer, Praise, and Privacy: This page is focused on members of our congregation. We want to assure guests to our website that if you ask for prayer, it will not show up here. We've also started a new policy that, even for the congregation prayers, we will only put the initial of the last name.

Prayer Quote of the Week:
“Come, O house of Jacob, [Altadena Baptist Church] let us walk in the light of the Lord.” Isaiah 2:5 (NIV)

Artifacts for the ABC Library! We are asking members of the congregation, who come from different countries, have or will be traveling abroad, to bring a small artifact (vases, tea pots/cups, dolls, figurines, cars, etc.) that is representative of your country (or the country visited) to be displayed on the bookshelves. We also need more fascinating books. Please bring your item/s to the Church office. For more information, please contact Mary R.

Special Interest Groups:
Three new small groups are forming. These are groups that meet around a common interest, for a specified amount of time, in order to pursue that interest with the support of others in the congregation. You are invited to check out the one that interests you. Or, if you want to start your own special interest group, or for more information, please contact Pastor Connie.

Clothes for the Homeless - Laura Van A says that she and other Bad Weather Shelter staff are frustrated when they see people living on the streets without warm clothing, even children. If you bring jackets, sweaters, warm pants and shirts, children's clothing to the church, she will see that they get to the neediest people. Thanks.

Cook a Turkey for the Shelter! Are you available and willing to cook a turkey for the Bad Weather Shelter? If yes, please contact Pastor Connie at 626-797-8970. Thank you for helping with this ministry.

Who the Holy Spirit is and How God Speaks to Us
The Fireside class will be starting a new lesson series beginning January 8, 2012 focused on the identity of the Holy Spirit and how God speaks to us through the Spirit. We will begin with scriptural foundations before moving into the development of the doctrine of the Holy Spirit and its role within the trinity. Finally we will focus on practices and disciplines that many throughout the history of the church have found helpful in making themselves receptive to communication with God and his Spirit.

Throughout this series I will be inviting guests (some from within the Church and some from outside it) to share their experiences of the Holy Spirit and how God "speaks" to them, taking seriously the notion that the experiences of the Spirit are as varied as those who experience them.

If you've never joined a Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study (aka "Sunday School") or the Fireside class, we would love for you to join our always lively conversation. We meet for an hour, Sunday Mornings at 9:45 in the Fireside Room, downstairs all the way to the back of the building. —Matt L
